Enjoy the invigorating climate of the North Sea – the fresh sea breeze and the picturesque beaches
Welcome to the 12-Kilometre Sandy Beach of St. Peter-Ording
Enjoy the seemingly endless expanse of St. Peter-Ording’s 12-kilometre-long sandy beach. Discover the town’s four distinct districts – each with its own charm and unique character. Experience the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site Wadden Sea and join a guided mudflat hike to explore this fascinating landscape. Feel the rhythm of life shaped by sand, wind and tide!
The vastness is truly captivating – giving you the feeling that the sky is within reach. You can stroll for hours along the seemingly infinite shoreline, often without meeting many people. Stretching 12 kilometres in length and up to 2 kilometres in width, the beach extends majestically in front of St. Peter-Ording. Wooden boardwalks lead to the famous stilt houses – unique along the North Sea coast – as well as to four supervised bathing areas and two official nudist beaches. Here, in the world’s largest sandbox, you’ll meet sandcastle builders, water-sport enthusiasts, and land-sailors racing across the beach on three wheels with colourful sails, reaching speeds of up to 130 km/h.
The Südstrand (South Beach) in the district of Dorf is the quiet alternative to the long main beach. It’s also the meeting point for guided mudflat tours with the Schutzstation Wattenmeer, since the bay is the perfect starting point at low tide. But it’s not only for “mud walkers” – away from the bustle, you can relax here in a beach chair and watch daring kitesurfers performing their jumps. The new Strandhütte serves snacks and refreshments. From our DünenNest it’s just a 20-minute walk to the South Beach, or simply take the free local bus (included with the St. Peter-Ording guest card) that takes you directly to the beach – except at high tide.
Four Districts – Ording · Bad · Dorf · Böhl
Like a string of pearls, the four districts line the more than 12 km long and up to 2 km wide beach. Each one is a true holiday gem with its own shine, style and atmosphere.
Ording offers contrast and variety – divided by the dyke. On one side, the wide beach buzzes with maritime life: a paradise for beach and water-sports lovers. Many major events take place here every year. The beach is both playground and adventure ground.
Bad represents modern seaside tourism. Here you’ll find the leisure and spa complex Dünen-Therme. The Erlebnis-Promenade in Bad, redesigned in 2007, features modern landscape architecture, the new Buhne (promontory) and the 1-km-long pier leading directly onto the sandbank. From our DünenNest, it’s just about a 20-minute walk over the dyke to the promenade. You’ll also find the new event centre Dünen-Hus here.
Dorf has grown organically over the centuries and enchants visitors with its cheerful, small-town charm. Overlooked by the St. Peter Church – which gave the town its name – its historic architecture, cultural attractions and vibrant local life create a unique atmosphere.
From our hotel, a walk along Fasanenweg brings you to the marketplace, where the sculptures Jan and Greet welcome you – symbols of St. Peter’s past life. Through the summer dyke opening (Stöpen), you reach Dorfstraße and Olsdorfer Straße, the heart of the old village. Preserved thatched cottages, the church, and well-integrated new buildings shape the character of the district. The Local History Museum in Olsdorfer Straße offers fascinating insights into the culture of the Eiderstedt peninsula. More than 30 shops invite you to browse, and a wide range of cafés and restaurants ensure culinary variety.
Every Wednesday is market day – offering fresh local produce and everything you’d expect from a lively regional market.
Böhl is the quietest of the four districts – a peaceful retreat. Along its broad sandy beach, which even has a car parking area, lies Die Seekiste, St. Peter-Ording’s famous fish restaurant.
Leisure & Spa – The “Dünen-Therme”
The Dünen-Therme leisure and adventure pool offers a gentle, “tamed” version of the North Sea. On over 1,000 m², you can relax in pleasantly warm, pure seawater – with large glass fronts ensuring comfort and sea views all year round.
The sauna area opens heart and senses to a nature-inspired wellness culture. Five premium sauna types reflect the coastal landscape’s character. A dune garden with a seawaterfall, seawater pool, sand, pebbles, marram grass and beach chairs serves as a peaceful retreat.
In the Health & Wellness Centre, natural marine elements are used for treatments, complemented by a high-quality wellness programme featuring holistic rituals and care ceremonies inspired by oriental and Far Eastern traditions, as well as revitalising thalasso therapies.

UNESCO World Natural Heritage – The Wadden Sea
The Wadden Sea is a unique natural landscape full of pristine beauty. Schleswig-Holstein protects this area as a national park, and UNESCO has recognised it as a World Heritage Site. Covering more than 4,400 km², it is the largest national park between the North Cape and Sicily. Under the motto “Let nature be nature”, this exceptional ecosystem – with its mudflats, tidal creeks, dunes and salt meadows – is preserved in its entirety. This ensures that people today and in the future can marvel at and enjoy its natural wonders.
